Ghanaian Highlife singer Kidi has decried that TikTok is ‘killing’ them although they are grateful for its contribution in the industry.
Like everything else, TikTok has its drawbacks for KiDi. On TV3’s Ladies Talk, he also describes how the popular app can be problematic despite making a significant contribution to the entertainment sector.
Afrobeat musician KiDi, who has won numerous awards, has drawn attention to the discussion’s stunning omission of TikTok’s other side. He claimed that while TikTok advertises songs, it can also prematurely end a song’s potential.
“If a dance routine is included in a song I have out. Imagine Anita performing a dance routine to the song by KiDi. 1, 2, 3, finished. You switch to the following tune. What occurs to the song by KiDi? You discard it.
Even though it’s beneficial and has advanced the industry, it has drawbacks as well. Someone stated in a tweet that the so-and-so music had been replaced by the so-and-so tune. And barely one month had passed. These issues are troubling for artists because, if they continue, they would quickly burn out because they must constantly release songs.
KiDi went on to emphasize the advantages of the social networking site. He thinks it’s a necessary evil that, when a proper balance is maintained, may be used for good.
“Everything has benefits and drawbacks. Without a shadow of a doubt, we can affirm that TikTok has significantly aided the music industry. not only in Ghana, but all throughout the world. It’s incredible that songs from ten years ago are making a comeback thanks to TikTok. It’s excellent for the sector.
Personally, I’m appreciative. Although it has done a lot for me, there are always drawbacks. It just comes down to navigating it and striking a good balance, or a middle ground,” he said.
