Mahama Criticizes President Akuffo-Addo On Use Of Independence Day Funds.

Former president John Dramani Mahama criticizes President Akufo-Addo for not using funds designated for planning Ghana’s Independence Day celebration to address the country’s vaccine shortage for children.

This came during a conversation with party members in Mepe, in North Tongu Constituency of the Volta region on Saturday. The former president expressed his concerns about the vaccination scarcity and the unnecessary expenses of the extravagant Independence Day celebration, given the current economic difficulties faced by the country.

He seemed saddened by the news of the shortage of childhood vaccines, saying. “Today I was very sad when I was reading in the media and it said that for the very first time in the 4th Republic, since 1992, today we are short of some childhood vaccines.”

He went on to question the need for the expensive Independence Day celebration. Mahama added that the money could have been used to get vaccines.

The lack of polio and measles vaccines, according to Mahama, could cause significant harm if an outbreak occurs. On Thursday, the former president inaugurated his campaign at the Cedi Auditorium of the University of Health and Allied Sciences(UHAS).

The former president is seeking to become the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) again in the 2024 elections.
