A-Plus sues NCA for blocking SIM cards.
Kwame Asare-Obeng, popularly called A-Plus has sued the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the Minister of Justice Attorney General for blocking unregistered SIM cards.

Since Monday, September 5, Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have started to block unregistered SIM cards.

The NCA published the sanctions against unregistered SIM cards on Sunday, September 4.

On September 30, 2022, the current SIM registration process is expected to come to an end. People who don’t register will face penalties.

All outgoing calls will be redirected to IVR as part of the punitive measures, according to the NCA, so that each day a message would be played before every call was answered.

Additionally, a sequential batch of numbers will have their outgoing calls and Data Services stopped for 48 hours (2 days) once a week on a rotating basis.

A-Plus, the convener of the Peoples Project, filed the lawsuit in the Supreme Court, asking for a “declaration that, upon a true and proper interpretation of Articles 2, 23, and 296 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, the Directive by the Minister for Communications, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, on Sunday, July 31, 2022, that the First Defendant will ensure that all SIM cards that are not re-registered by 30 September 20 will be barred while the National Identification Authority (NCA) struggles to produce Ghana Cards, the sole card required for the aforementioned re-registration of all Ghanaians is arbitrary, an abuse of discretion, and is in violation of the constitution. It is also null, void, and has no legal standing.
